Atlas Corps Fellowship

Atlas Corps invites social change leaders from around the world to apply for our 12-18 month In-Person Fellowship in the United States and our Virtual Leadership Institute!

Atlas Corps is accepting applications now for the 12-18 month In-Person U.S. Fellowship with program start dates in October 2021 and January 2022. Candidates should apply by May 16, 2021 to receive priority consideration for these start dates. We accept applications year-round, but candidates are encouraged to apply early as applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.

Candidates may also indicate their interest in joining the Virtual Leadership Institute on the same application form. We anticipate launching a new cohort in late 2021 or early 2022; this page will be updated as the next start date is confirmed.

Atlas Corps Fellowship

Special Opportunity: While Atlas Corps seeks candidates from a wide variety of specialties, we are prioritizing applicants for opportunities beginning in late 2021 or early 2022 with two or more years of full-time experience in at least one of the following skill areas:

♦ Communications / Marketing: Create engaging content, manage social media, and develop marketing campaigns to increase visibility and engagement.

♦ Partnership Building / Business Development: Mobilize networks, manage partnerships, and develop business proposals to amplify impact.

♦ Monitoring & Evaluation / Data Analysis: Build frameworks, collect data, and provide analysis, recommendations, and trainings to drive program design decision-making.

♦ Technology / Engineering: Engineer products (websites, platforms, applications, etc.) to support mission-driven work. Maintain and train teams on information technology systems.

Note: There are Fellowship placements available for candidates with expertise in these areas in late 2021 and early 2022. While professionals in these four fields will receive priority review in our selection process, we welcome applications with other professional skill-sets.

Learn more about the Fellowship from one of our upcoming Facebook Live interviews with our Fellows and Alumni!

In-Person Fellowship in the U.S.

COVID-19 Update: Atlas Corps is preparing for Fellows in our upcoming classes to come to the U.S. for a 12-month fully in-person Fellowship, and we expect that most or all of our Fellows will be placed into this program. If it is not possible to bring individual Fellows to the U.S. in 2021 due to travel, visa, or safety guidelines, we will discuss alternative program options with those Fellows individually (which may include our Blended Fellowship, combining remote service with in-person service).

The Atlas Corps In-Person Fellowship is a 12-18 month Fellowship in the United States for the world’s top social change leaders. Fellows serve full-time with Host Organizations to develop leadership skills and learn effective practices through the Atlas Corps Global Leadership Lab professional development series and networking opportunities with other Fellows. The U.S.-based component of the Fellowship allows participants to engage in group cultural activities like a D.C. Monuments Tour, sporting events, U.S. holiday celebrations, and more.

Atlas Corps sponsors the J-1 Trainee visa and covers most visa expenses. Atlas Corps also provides each Fellow with a living stipend to cover basic expenses (food, local transportation, and shared housing), a monthly phone plan, emergency health and travel insurance, and round-trip international airfare.

In addition to full-time service at their Host Organization, Fellows will also participate in over 200 hours of in-person and virtual training through our Global Leadership Lab.

Through this Fellowship, Atlas Corps seeks to advance the U.S. State Department Education and Cultural Exchange Bureau’s Mission: To promote mutual understanding through people-to-people exchanges and to further U.S. foreign policy objectives by engaging international exchange visitors and American communities in a diversity of positive, safe, and enriching educational, cultural and professional exchange programs.

Blended Fellowship (Virtual + U.S.-based)

COVID-19 Update: With the anticipated resumption of the In-Person U.S. Fellowship in July 2021, we expect that most of our Fellows will be placed into this program instead of the Blended Fellowship. If it is not possible to bring individual Fellows to the U.S. in 2021 due to travel, visa, or safety guidelines, we will discuss alternative program options with those Fellows individually (which may include our Blended Fellowship, combining remote service with in-person service).

Our new Blended Fellowship combines virtual service from Fellows’ home countries with service in the United States, along with in-person and virtual training through our Global Leadership Lab. The exact start date and length of the U.S.-based component of the Fellowship will depend on how guidelines around health, travel, and visas develop over time, and the individual needs of the Host Organization.

The typical blended Fellowship will include 4-6 months of full-time remote service from Fellows’ home countries with U.S.-based Host Organizations until they can safely travel to the U.S. for in-person service. During remote service, Fellows receive a stipend based on the local cost of living that would cover lodging for one person, basic utilities, food, local transportation, and financial support for the technology necessary to meet Host Organization requirements remotely. See above for a description of in-person service.

The total length of the Fellowship (including the remote and in-person components) is typically 14 months but can be extended by agreement of the Fellow and Host.

Virtual Leadership Institute

NOTE: Candidates may indicate their interest in joining the Virtual Leadership Institute on the same application form as the Fellowship. We anticipate launching a new cohort in late 2021 or early 2022.

Our new Virtual Leadership Institute is an online learning community for global social change leaders. There are five online learning modules based on the pillars of the Atlas Corps Global Leadership Lab (Orientation, Developing Self, Developing Others, Leading Movements, Reflection Retreat).

This eight-month online program includes keynote speakers, interactive workshops, self-led activities, discussion groups, and community-building activities with leading U.S. organizations and leaders. Participants, known as Atlas Corps Scholars, enhance their professional skills, build their global networks, and increase their likelihood of being placed as an Atlas Corps Fellow.

Atlas Corps Fellows and Alumni are not eligible to participate in the Virtual Leadership Institute. However, Virtual Leadership Scholars are eligible to be considered for the Atlas Corps Fellowship.

You can apply for all three opportunities on one application. Learn more about the application process at apply.atlascorps.org, and click here to start your application.
